Vague memories from the July meeting

I enjoyed the July meeting on the terrace at Ale-X's place in Laval. Alex served two Mild's. It was the first time I had tasted Alex's beer. Based on his reputation I was half expecting something resembling blue cheese in a beer glass, but his beers were normal and quite nice.

Sean was brave and brought a Stout that he wasn't happy with because of the yeast he used. I guess he doesn't like us very much because he brought a whole litre of it to punish us with. I learned about petite mutants in re-used yeast and their ability to produce fusel alcohol. Acetone is a distinctive flavour, but not that nice. Randy argued that adding nail polish would counteract the flavour of nail polish remover.

Sean's Pale Ale was great though, as was Aaron's Stout. A bottle emptying gas leak prevented Troy from bringing any home brew. Randy brought a couple of commercials. Renaud arrived later, bringing as usual a Fruit Beer and also a Saison, an American Quad and an Imerial Pale Ale. I brought an American IPA and Something Brown, the recipes for which I have posted in the recipe section.

After the meeting a few of us stopped by Dieu de Ciel on the way home. Larry from DDC was there and chatted with us about beer and also produced a glass of something sour with a strong balsamic vinegar flavour.

I'm looking forward to the next meeting.

Cheers, Jaf.
