All Grain #1!

So, as I mentioned in a past entry, I'm going to give all-grain a whirl. It's Friday night; I'm home with the daughter, so why not brew?
But what to brew? My wife likes yellow beer. She particularly enjoys crap like Labatt Blue, but I've managed to her to drink something a little better: Keith's.
System growth, and Newcastle clone
Submitted by sean on Wed, 07/18/2007 - 12:51The past couple days have been eventful for my mini-brewery.
I got 3 new cornys (now I have 4), and a friend dropped off 2 old 23L carboys she had kicking around the cottage.
I kegged my Newcastle clone (extract + grain). It's quite.. young. A bit on the fruity side, but once it's properly carbed, and cold, it should be quite drinkable).

UPDATE: it's got banana notes again, like the stout.. )-: Once the initial whiff passes, it's better. I'm pretty sure this one didn't get too hot. It was in my basement the whole time, and with the AC on, it's not much more than 20ºC at any given moment. Ideas?
I also picked up a 3000W water heater element for $10 from some guy on cragislist. Hopefully that will one-day make it into a nice electric kettle.
(anyone got a spare 48L (or larger) brew pot I can have for cheap? (-; )

Picked up a Gott cooler.
Submitted by sean on Sat, 07/14/2007 - 12:38This morning, I drove up to the St. Eustache flea market and happened to find an old (metal–ha!) gott cooler. The inside is plastic, and it's a bit dirty, but not in terrible shape.
Should make for a fine 5-gal mash tun. Looks like the main missing ingredients are:
- Manifold/false bottom
- wort cooler
All-grain, here I come!
